Shanghai University of Finance and Economics School of Public Economics and Management was invited to attend the 2016 NASPAA annual meeting

  Prof. Yu Wei and Prof. Fu Wenlin from School of Public Economics and Management, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, attended the annual meeting of the Association of School of Public Administration Colleges (NASPAA) in Columbus, Ohio on Oct. 19-21st. The meeting is held by the United States Ohio State University School of Public Administration.

  2016 NASPAA Annual Conference attracted 545 attendees from the United States federal government, local government, nonprofit organizations, and many prestigious public administration colleges around the world. The conference was held on topics such as the development of public management disciplines, talent development and teaching reform, capacity assessment methods, as well as the internationalization of public management education and other important topics for in-depth discussion and exchange. NASPAA announced the theme of the student simulation competition, "Food Safety", which will be held on February 2017. The leaders and faculty representatives of Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Southwest University of Finance and Economics, and University of International Business and Economics attended the conference as well.

  Prof. Yu Wei, Director of the MPA Center of the School of Public Economics and Management of the SUFE shared his latest research results on the assessment methods of students' competencies with the NASPAA Chief Certification Officer, the experts from the Pennsylvania State University and the Tennessee State University. Prof. Yu Wei's report on the disaggregation assessment method of the six abilities of the MPA program in our school has aroused the strong interest and wide resonance of many experts and scholars.

  As an initiative of the NASPAA Globalization Development Strategy, the conference also organized a sub-forum "Enhancing the Practical Ability Training of MPA Students" for the MPA Program of our school. Vice-President Fu Wenlin of the School of Public Administration and Associate, Professor Li Hui-ping were briefed on some of the initiatives and experiences of the Shanghai MPA program in part-time tutor selection, on-site case teaching, applied thesis and international cooperation projects which highly praised by the NASPAA Officers and professors of the University of Minnesota.

  During the conference, Miss. Li Huiping, MPA Director of International Affairs attended the international certification training. Prof. Yu Wei and Director . Fu Wenlin exchanged views with Ms. Lauren McFarland, Executive Director of NASPAA, Ms. Crystal Calarusse, Director of Certification, and Mr. Ryan Etzcorn, International Certification Coordinator, on international cooperation and certification. We also specifically selected an outstanding MPA student to attend the conference and acknowledge the organization procedures of student simulation competition which showed our MPA students' good style.

  In addition, with the opportunity of this annual conference, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics School of Public Administration had reached preliminary cooperation intention with several domestic colleges and universities of the United States including the University of Minnesota, Rutgers University School of Public Affairs and Management. We will actively explore the new patterns of carrying out exchanges and learning of outstanding students at all levels.
