1. What’s the time table for admission of full-time students pursuing for a Specialized MPA Degree?
A: The rough time table for admission of full-time MPA students is provided below (take 2013 example):
Time for posting the admission guide: In early September
Candidate registration time: online registration: October 10-31, on-site confirmation: November 10-14, online payment: November 4-9
First examination time: early January next year (weekend)
Time to query first examination results: End of February next year for free at the website of Graduate School, SUFE
Re-examination time: End of March next year
Admission time: June next year
School-opening time: September next year

2. How do candidates make a registration (to pursue for a dual-certificate)?
A: Registration is divided into two stages: Online information submission and on-site confirmation.
1) Online registration: Candidates shall log in the website of China Graduate Admission Information Network (Http://yz.chsi.com.cn) during October 10-31 for online registration and shall fill in and submit registration information as required.
(2) On-site confirmation: Candidates shall personally go to the designated site posted on the website of the Graduate School, SUFE by bringing their ID cards, original academic certificates and online registration numbers to take a photo, pay registration fees and confirm the registration information.
3. What are the academic requirements for candidates?
A: For students with a nationally recognized vocational school diploma, 5 years' work experience or more is required;
For students with a bachelor's degree, 3 years' work experience or more is required;
For students with a master's or doctoral degree, 2 years' work experience or more is required.
4. Can people who don't work for government departments or public administration organizations apply for MPA?
A: Yes as long as they meet other application requirements.
5. Are there special requirements for soldiers applying for MPA?
A: (1) When making an online registration, soldier candidates shall select 'Military cadre' from the 'In-service soldiers' column in 'Fill in personal information 1' in Step 4;
(2) When making a registration, soldier candidates shall provide education certification of their diplomas issued by army colleges. The candidates may refer to requirements for education certification posted on the website http://yz.chsi.com.cn. The certification period is 3-20 working days. The candidates may make arrangements for degree certification by themselves.
(3) Soldier candidates must provide their own certificates of officers for on-site confirmation and examinations. Temporary ID cards issued by the army are invalid.
6. Can candidates whose previous majors were not Public Administration or Public Administration-related apply for MPA?
A: Yes, but such candidates are suggested to spend more time on learning management knowledge when preparing the test.
7. What’s the difference between an MPA single-certificate and an MPA dual- certificate?
A: Candidates applying for an MPA single-certificate will participate in the united on-the-job examination held in every October and will only be issued a degree certificate upon graduation.
Candidates applying for an MPA dual-certificate will participate in the united national entry examination for graduate students (management category) held in every January and will be issued a degree certificate and a diploma upon graduation.
8. What’s the different between a Specialized MPA Degree and a master’s degree earned by full-time graduate students who passed the unified national entrance examination?
A: All master's degree certificates are uniformly printed by the Office of Academic Degrees Committee, State Council. The students pursuing a Specialized MPA Degree and full-time graduate students will be issued a master's degree of the same level, but of different types. Students pursuing a Professional MPA Degree must write a master's thesis by combining theory and practice, which is more practice-based, while full-time graduate students shall write a theory-based master's thesis and their degree is a scientific one.
9. What’s the tuition fee for studying MPA at SUFE?
A: Please refer to the MPA admission guide of the School of Public Economics and Administration posted by the Graduate School of that year.
The tuition fee for an MPA dual-certificate was RMB 58,000 in 2014.
10. How are MPA courses scheduled? How long can I get an MPA degree?
A: Currently, courses are mainly on weekends.
The duration is 2.5-4 years. Students learn the courses on weekends while having jobs on weekdays. Courses require students to closely combining research and social practice. Students will get a degree after earning required points and completing a thesis.
11. Where do candidates take the entrance examination for SUFE MPA students? Where do candidates get an examination ticket?
A: Candidates will take the examination at SUFE.
Candidates shall search, download and print their tickets at the website Http://yz.chsi.com.cn by themselves.
12. What’s the content of the first MPA examination? What are the reference books?
A: 204- English II (100 points), 199- Comprehensive Management Capacity (200 points).
English II is a subject of the unified national examination and Comprehensive Management Capacity is a subject of the joint national examination. As for reference books and previous examination papers, please refer to the latest syllabus issued by the Examination Center, Ministry of Education.
13. Does SUFE hold an MPA pre-examination training class? Are any reference materials offered?
A: SUFE doesn't hold a re-examination training class of any form, nor sell reference books or run a mail-order business.
Reference materials include previous examination papers and the syllabus issued by the Ministry of Education of that year, which candidates can purchase from a bookstore.
14. What were the admission rates of candidates applying for SUFE MPA in previous years? How is the admission score determined?
A: The number of candidates varies with different years, so does the admission rate.
Previous data about the admission scores show that the admission score of SUFE MPA is slightly higher than the national admission score of that year.
2013: a total score of 180 points,English 55 points, Joint examination 110 points;
2012: a total score of 180 points,English 55 points, Joint examination 110 points;
2011: a total score of 200 points,English 60 points, Joint examination 120 points.
15. When is the re-examination for SUFE MPA dual-certificate? What are the examination contents?
A: The re-examination for an MPA dual-certificate is usually scheduled in late March and early April. The specific time will be announced on the website of SUFE MPA Education Center.
Generally speaking, re-examination contents include political theory examination, oral English test and comprehensive ability test.
16. How to check the candidates’ qualifications? Is the company/institution that I work with required to know about it?
A: During re-examination, a candidate must submit his/her ID Card, examination ticket, the originals of his/her highest diploma and degree certificate, and a sealed resume and working years certificate issued by the Personnel Department (or Archive Management Department) of company/institution that he/she works at.
The university will check candidates' qualifications again before they are formally admitted.
The candidates don’t need to provide written materials indicating their companies/institutions’ consent to their examination, but they shall handle all issues between them and their companies/institutions resulting from the admissions. If the candidates can’t participate in the re-examination or can’t be admitted due to their failing to handle the said issues, SUFE shall not be responsible for that.
17. Does SUFE’s MPA program receive a transfer student? How can a candidate who fails to be admitted by SUFE be admitted by another university?
A: Currently, SUFE doesn't receive a transfer student.
The examination scores and admission results will be announced on SUFE’s website. The candidates failing to be admitted by SUFE can apply for transfer students in the transfer service system on http://yz.chsi.com.cn/, or personally contact other universities for admission.
