The National MPA Faculty Seminar on Social Research Methods 2014, sponsored by the National Steering Committee on MPA Education and organized by the School of Public Economics and Administration, SUFE, was successfully held from April 11 to 13, 2014. Teachers from national MPA schools attended the seminar and had a thorough discussion about the course of Social Research Methods.
     On the morning of April 12, the opening ceremony of the seminar was held in Room 302, Phoenix Building, SUFE and attended by Zhu Qianwei and Sun Tao, members of the National Steering Committee on MPA Education, Professor Liu Yunzhao from SUFE, Zheng Shaohua, executive vice president of the Graduate School, SUFE, He Jinghua, assistant to the president of the School of Public Economics and Administration, SUFE and Zeng Jimao, director of the MPA Center, SUFE as well as 95 teachers of the course of Social Research Methods from all over the country. The ceremony was hosted by Professor He Jinghua and Professor Zhu Qianwei made the opening remarks.

     After the opening ceremony, Professor Sun Tao, vice president of Zhou Enlai School of Government, Nankai University, gave an explanation about the teaching guidelines and basic design ideas of Social Research Methods.

     Afterwards, Professor Geng Shu from the School of Public Economics and Administration, SUFE delivered a lecture entitled “Sharing the Syllabus Design and Teaching Methods of the Course of Social Research Methods”.

   On the afternoon of 12th, all participating teachers were divided into four groups and discussed about the teaching guidelines of Social Research Methods. Then, each group made a report and Professor Sun Tao answered and responded to questions. Through the face-to-face communication and discussion, participating teachers discussed about their issues and gave their own opinions. The activity has enhanced communication between teachers.
    After a simple dinner, Professor Geng Shu gave a lecture entitled “How to Design a Social Science Research”.

    The seminar room was fully occupied. The seminar expanded the vision of participating teachers and improved their academic standards regarding the course of Social Research Methods.

Then, participating teachers freely chose to listen to the following three lectures:

East China University of Science and Technology Guo Shengli: How to Carry out Research on Urban and Rural Communities

    At the noon of 13th, Professor Zhu Qianwei made concluding remarks for the seminar. He expressed gratitude to participating teachers for their strong support and active participation in the seminar. He thought that the seminar provided intensive topics, diverse perspectives and thorough discussions. Apart from maintaining a high academic standard, the seminar enabled participating teachers to thoroughly discuss about the course of Social Research Methods and enhanced their communication. The seminar achieved expected results.
