With the alumni working ideal of “serving alumni and serving alma mater” deep in people’s hearts, the promising situation provides a solid foundation for further improvement of alumni work quality, and a crucial condition for achieving new breakthrough. On the occasion of the University’s centennial anniversary, we have continued to broaden the scope of cultural advancement, intensify the support for the development of the alma mater, perfect the organization development of the Association, and have achieved breakthroughs in all these areas. In her keynote address, President Fan Liming pointed out that, concerning the top-level design of the University, the historical opportunity of “double first-rate” construction should be grasped. Through systematic planning and full demonstration, a “double first-rate” system featuring “1+5+7” should be basically formed, of which 1 refers to one overall plan, 5 means the five first-rate construction plans, including discipline construction, talent training, faculties team building, scientific research and modern university system, and 7 signifies the seven first-rate construction plans regarding theoretical economics, applied economics, managerial science and engineering, business administration, statistics studies, the science of law and Marxist Theory. With regard to the preparation of the centennial anniversary, President Fan specifically emphasized 8 projects, i.e. the construction and renovation of venues, news publicity, liaison and fund raising, academic activities, campus culture, construction guarantee, celebration-specific projects, and public benefit projects in honor of the anniversary. In the group discussion, President Fan expressed her high hopes for the SUFEAA. She stressed that the construction of the SUFEAA must be gradual, and emphasis should be put on organization development, institutional improvement, and cultural advancement.

Over the course of the past year, the regional coverage of SUFEAA both at home and abroad had made new breakthrough. Speech at the 10th Alumni Representative Annual Conference

Distinguished President Fan Liming, Vice President Fang Hua, dear alumni,

It is my privilege to attend the 10th Alumni Representative Annual Conference of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. I will deliver my work report on behalf of MPA Alumni Association.

Last Oct. 17th, with the support of the SUFEAA, MPA Alumni Association was established, initiated by the College of Public Economics and Management, led by MPA Education Center and thanks to the concerted efforts of Alumni. As of today, it has been established for one year and 32 days. As an Alumni organization that is still in its youth, we have made our impression in practice by acting in correspondence of the actual situation, and making the best use of the circumstances. Looking back on the year’s work, I summarize it as following: firstly, clarifying our direction. MPA Alumni Association’s orientation is to be a bond between alumni, a window of service to alumni, and a platform for giving back to our alma mater and the society. Secondly, strengthening our basis. We have made efforts regarding basic construction, which can be demonstrated in establishing platforms and institutions. Thirdly, while following the set rules of the 1st Alumni Association, we also innovated in our own approaches, and kept summarizing and exploring.

I am going to share the characteristics shown in the actual operation of our MPA Alumni Association over the past year one by one:

Firstly, the credibility we achieved through regulation establishment. We have formulated Charter of MPA Alumni Association of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Administrative Measures of MPA Alumni Association of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Budget Administrative Measures of MPA Alumni Association of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics one by one, which have enhanced the authority of the Alumni Association, elevated the stability of the platform, and pushed forward the continuity of alumni work in an orderly manner.

Secondly, the diversity of platform activities. Core members of the Alumni Association irregularly publish social hot topics on our WeChat platform to stimulate alumni’s enthusiasm in interaction. Currently, our alumni have set up regular special columns including “Morning Chicken Soup for the Soul”, “Weather Forecast”, “Financial Breakfast”, “Internal Reference of Securities”, and “Breakfast Music” based on their major advantages and interests, which have brought about benefits to our alumni every day.

Thirdly, the initiative we took in intensifying our services. The Alumni Association organized a specialized “Alumni Activity Questionnaire Survey” this mid-August in light of our alumni’s confusion during their work and their needs for knowledge updates. Given the information symmetry, this can lay a foundation for further utilization of the abundant resources of the University. At the same time, we coordinated and integrated, to some degree, the resources originated from our alumni’s own work platforms. With regard to the exchange of advanced experience among alumni in the same industry, and communication among those who have the same skills, some cases have been launched.

Fourthly, increasing influence of activities. With the general group of the Alumni Association as the foundation, we have established several branches. The “Physical Exercise and Health” group has, under the leadership of the Alumni Association and with the participation of core alumni, gained wide attention from the society. Activities like “The Rampage of an Egg” which was dedicated to charity fundraising for children in the impoverished mountainous areas, and “Singing Journey - A Night-long Journey for Love” which was to donate bedtime story books to left-behind children, boasted positive impacts. MPA alumni were even present everywhere during the Shanghai International Marathon as participants, security personnel and volunteers, which has spread our influence. Plus, we have organized special activities such as “Family Strawberry Picking” and “Alumni’s Visit to Japanese” as a way to intensify the emotional exchange among alumni and to make the off-line activities more vibrant.

Fifthly, the pragmatic nature of our teaching. We combine the advanced experience of our alumni in their respective positions with education and teaching. This is a new exploration of our Alumni Association. Since the beginning of this year, alumni have established a “double-investigation and double-protection” mechanism in their fields, i.e. “strictly investigating fake certificates, reports and invoices provided by intermediary agents to keep the bottom line of laws; strictly investigating the missed items and changes in design to guarantee the fairness of the market”. This has been broadcasted by the Xinhua News Agency and attracted wide attention from the society. Meanwhile, under the leadership of the Alumni Association, MPA Center conducted field research on this as an educational case, which has enriched both the classroom contents and the alumni work.

Sixthly, giving back to the centennial anniversary of our alma mater. In order to record the journey taken by our alumni and showcase their brilliancy, and also to prepare for the centennial anniversary of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, the Alumni Association accepted the initiative of our alumni to organize a project of “MPA Alumni Interviews” with the strong support of the College of Public Economics and Management and MPA Center. It is planned that before Nov. 2017, excellent interviews of dozens of alumni will be published as a gift to the centennial anniversary of our alma mater. Currently, this ongoing project has gained much attention.

What is worth mentioning is that, during the many activities of MPA Alumni Association, President Song Jianmin has been fully committed to our work, and keeping serving alumni even during illness. Shen Hui, former Secretary of CPC General Branch of the College of Public Economics and Management, Zeng Jimao, Director of MPA Center, and teachers of MPA Center are all pioneers, participants and witnesses of the activities. The exchange between teachers and students are on an equal basis, and carried out in a smooth manner. They are both teachers and friends, and are love and respected by our alumni.

“Every time we let a day pass on without dancing we have failed life”. It has only been one year since we started, so we still need some time before we can actually achieve the targets we set at the onset of the establishment of our Alumni Association, and yet the work of the Alumni Association is one that is about youth, one that is always full of promise and vigor because of the youth. We are on our journey, and we will keep moving forward!

Thank you all. We are grateful for the hard work of the sponsor for this grand celebration.
