
On February 26, NASPAA-Batten Student Simulation Competition (China Region) themed “Food Safety” was held at the School of Public Administration, Tsinghua University, Beijing. The School of Public Economics and Administration selected five students to participate in the event. After a day of intense competition, the "World 1" joined by Hong Wei and Wang Luxia from 2016 MPA single-certificateclass won the China Region Champion for their outstanding performance.


The NASPAA holds the simulation competition once every year. This year, NASPAA has for the first time opened up an independent regional site in China. A total of 40 students including those from China, Russia, Korea, Kazakhstan, Singapore and other Asian countries, as well as some European students who are studying MPA/MPP in China participated in the competition.

All the players randomly formed "World 1" and "World 2", who not only had to compete with each other, but also would contend with other competitors scattered in the other seven competition sites for the global championship. Each "World" shallfocus on five regions with relatively prominentfood safety issues inWest Africa, East Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, South America, etc.


The players alternatively simulated the rolesof Regional Director, Environment Program Officer, Agriculture Program Officerand Health Program Officer. They screen and implement public policies in four rounds, focusing on improving the indexes including nutrition, production, supply, population, environment and infrastructure in order to fully solve food safety issues by 2030.
This year, School of Public Economics and Administration of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics selected and sent a total of five students to participate in the competition.

Among them, Hong Wei and Wang Luxia from 2016 single-certificateclass were dividedinto the "World 1" and served as “program officers” of South Asia and Southeast Asia; Zhou Wei from 2015 dual-certificate class, He Baoyue, and Wang Yujue form 2016 dual-certificate class joined the "World 2"and served as the directors of East Africa, Southeast Asia and the official of × × respectively.

During the contest, five students had heated discussions, analysis and exchange withthe players from other countries and regions, and also showed good spirit in the competition. In the end, the “World 1” where Hong Wei and Wang Luxia participatedwon the champion of China region for theremarkable performance. Each player has received a certificate issued by NASPAA.
